Wart on the face? Checked , then removed

Facial warts are common, harmless in most cases and contagious enough to spread when shaved or picked. At Bailor in Sinsa, a doctor confirms what the bump is before removing it precisely with laser.

What is a wart on the face?

A wart is a small skin growth caused by human papillomavirus (HPV), which enters through tiny breaks in the skin. On the face, two types are most common:

  • Flat warts (verruca plana) — tiny, smooth, skin-coloured or light brown bumps, often in clusters on the forehead, cheeks or jaw. They frequently spread along shaving lines or scratches.
  • Common or filiform warts — rougher or thread-like growths, often near the lips, nose or eyelids.

Many other bumps look similar: milia, skin tags, seborrhoeic keratoses or small moles. They are treated differently, which is why we examine every lesion before removal. Our mole removal page covers the other common facial bumps.

Warts can disappear on their own over months to years, but facial warts are often removed sooner because they are visible and tend to spread to new areas.

How we treat warts on the face at Bailor

For the face, the priority is removing the virus-infected tissue while keeping marks as small as possible. Our doctors usually use a precise ablative laser, which vaporises each wart layer by layer and allows careful control of depth.

Once scabs fall off, the skin is pink and slightly shiny, then gradually blends in over 1–2 months. Daily SPF is important to prevent brown marks. If new warts appear, they are easiest to treat while small — message us a photo and the doctor will advise. For other small bumps, see mole and skin tag removal.

How a wart removal visit works

  1. Doctor check Each bump is examined, often with a dermatoscope, to confirm it is a wart and not another lesion.
  2. Numbing Numbing cream for about 30 minutes; the area is cleaned and marked.
  3. Laser removal Each wart is removed precisely — usually 10–40 minutes depending on the number.
  4. Wound care Ointment or hydrocolloid patches are applied, with written aftercare in English.

If you are visiting Seoul, plan removal at least a week before important photos, since small scabs and patches are visible for several days. You can fly the next day. Clusters of flat warts sometimes need a second session to treat new or missed lesions.

Downtime, side effects and recurrence

Laser wart removal is a small procedure, but it does create tiny wounds:

  • Common: small scabs for 5–10 days, pinkness at each spot for 4–8 weeks, mild stinging on the day.
  • Less common: temporary brown marks (post-inflammatory pigmentation), especially in darker skin or without sun protection; new warts appearing nearby.
  • Rare: infection, a small depressed or raised scar, or lightening of the skin at the treated spot.

Tell the doctor first if

you are pregnant, have a weakened immune system or take immunosuppressants, have a history of keloid scars, have an active cold sore or infection in the area, or use isotretinoin. Avoid shaving over untreated warts and do not pick scabs. Because HPV can remain in the skin, warts can come back — a check after 4 weeks helps catch them early.

Wart removal FAQ

How much does facial wart removal cost in Gangnam?

At Bailor Clinic in Sinsa, a single small flat wart is ₩10,000; about 30 flat warts are ₩250,000 and about 100 are ₩750,000, VAT excluded. See the removal price list.

Are facial warts contagious?

Yes, mildly. HPV spreads through skin contact and small cuts, so shaving or picking can spread warts across the face. Use a separate towel and avoid shaving over them until treated.

Will laser wart removal leave a scar?

Most small facial warts heal with a pink mark that fades over 1–2 months. A small scar or colour change is possible, which is why depth is kept as shallow as the wart allows.

Can warts come back after removal?

They can, because the virus may remain in surrounding skin. A follow-up at around 4 weeks lets the doctor treat any new lesions early.

Is it a wart or a mole?

They can look alike. The doctor examines each lesion before treatment; anything that looks unusual is not removed by laser without proper assessment.
