What are face contour injections?
“Face contour injection” is an umbrella term rather than a single product. It describes using different injectables to change the outline of the face — usually a slimmer jaw, a more defined chin, or less fullness under the jawline — without surgery or long recovery.
The first question is always what makes the face look wide or soft. Four factors are common, and many people have more than one:
- Muscle — a bulky masseter from clenching or chewing makes the jaw angle square
- Fat — a double chin or full lower cheeks blur the jawline
- Bone balance — a short or recessed chin makes the lower face look wider
- Skin laxity — early jowls soften the contour, which injections alone cannot lift
When laxity is the main issue, a lifting device such as Ultherapy or Shurink is usually added, because no injection tightens loose skin by itself.

What changes in your face shape
Chin filler shows immediately, while masseter Botox slims the jaw angle gradually over 2–6 weeks and fat-dissolving injections take 4–8 weeks. Botox needs repeating every 3–6 months to maintain the effect; reduced fat is usually long-lasting with stable weight. Our Botox page explains brands and dosing in more detail.
How a face contour visit works
- Doctor analysis The doctor asks you to clench, checks fat and chin projection from the front and side, and agrees a plan with you.
- Preparation Cleansing, marking and ice or numbing cream, depending on the injections chosen.
- Injections 10–30 minutes in total: Botox into the muscle, fat-dissolving solution into fat, filler at the chin.
- Aftercare Cooling, written instructions and, for filler, a retouch window of up to 4 weeks.
On a short trip, Botox and chin filler are easiest to fit in because visible downtime is minimal. DCA under the chin swells for longer, so book it early in your stay or plan it for a time you can stay home.
Downtime, side effects and aftercare
Each injection has its own profile, so your aftercare depends on the combination chosen:
- Common: small bruises and tenderness; mild chewing fatigue for a few weeks after masseter Botox; swelling for days to 3 weeks after fat-dissolving injections; swelling at the chin for 3–7 days after filler.
- Less common: temporary asymmetry of the smile, a slightly hollow look at the cheek if the masseter thins a lot, small lumps after fat or filler injections.
- Rare: infection, allergic reaction, temporary lower-lip weakness after chin DCA, or blood-vessel compromise after filler, which needs urgent treatment.
Tell the doctor first if you
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have a neuromuscular condition or take certain antibiotics (relevant to Botox)
- Take blood thinners or have a bleeding disorder
- Have had fillers, threads or jaw surgery in the area

Which injection is best for a V-line?
It depends on the cause. A square jaw from muscle responds to masseter Botox, fullness under the jaw to fat-dissolving injections, and a short chin to filler. Many V-line plans combine two.
How long until I see a slimmer face?
Chin filler is visible straight away. Masseter Botox takes 2–6 weeks, and fat-dissolving results build over 4–8 weeks.
How long do the results last?
Masseter Botox typically lasts 3–6 months, chin filler often 9–12 months or longer, and fat reduction is usually long-lasting if weight stays stable.
Can I have everything on the same day?
Often yes. The doctor plans the order and amounts, and may stage DCA separately if you need to limit visible swelling.
