What are fat loss injections?
Fat loss injections — also called fat-dissolving or lipolysis injections — deliver a solution into the fat layer just under the skin. The targeted fat cells are broken down, and the body clears the debris over the following weeks, so the change is gradual. Some formulas are based on deoxycholic acid (DCA), a molecule the body normally uses to digest dietary fat; others are clinic-prepared formulas for wider areas.
They suit people who are close to their healthy weight but have a pocket of fat that does not respond to exercise, for example:
- A double chin or fullness under the jawline
- Fuller lower cheeks that soften the jaw contour
- A small lower-belly pouch, love handles or bra-line fat
- Upper-arm or inner-thigh fat in a defined area
They will not tighten loose skin or reduce muscle. If the jaw looks wide because of the chewing muscle, masseter Botox is the right tool, and loose skin is better treated with Body ONDA or other tightening devices.

What changes after fat loss injections
Expect the area to look larger for a few days because of swelling. Slimming then appears gradually, usually most visible 4–8 weeks after a session as treated fat is cleared. Because fat cells in the treated area are reduced, the result can be long-lasting if your weight stays stable. Where skin is also loose, the doctor may add Shurink to tighten the jawline.
How a fat loss injection visit works
- Doctor assessment The doctor pinches and examines the area to confirm it is fat, then photographs and marks it.
- Comfort Ice or numbing cream is applied; body areas may need little numbing.
- Injection 15–30 minutes of small, evenly spaced injections into the fat layer.
- Cooling & aftercare A cold pack and instructions; a compression garment may be suggested for body areas.
If you are visiting Seoul briefly, choose the gentler face formula or a body area that clothing covers, since DCA swelling under the chin is visible for days. Keep 2–4 weeks between sessions, so a full course often spans two trips.
Downtime, side effects and aftercare
Swelling is part of how these injections work, so it is worth planning around. Honest expectations:
- Common: swelling, redness, a burning or tingling feeling during and shortly after injection, tenderness, firmness and bruising for several days; up to 3 weeks for chin or buccal DCA.
- Less common: temporary numbness, small lumps under the skin, or uneven reduction that needs a touch-up session.
- Rare: skin ulceration or infection, hair loss at the injection site, difficulty swallowing, or temporary weakness of the lower-lip muscle after chin injections.
Who should not have it, or tell the doctor first
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding (not given)
- Infection or inflammation in the area, or a swelling of unknown cause in the neck
- Blood thinners, bleeding disorders, or previous surgery in the area
- Expectation of weight loss — these injections reshape small areas only

Will fat loss injections help me lose weight?
No. They reduce small, defined fat pockets and change the contour of an area. Weight on the scale barely changes, and they are not suitable for general weight loss.
How many sessions are needed?
Most people need 2–4 sessions spaced 2–4 weeks apart. Small chin areas may need fewer; larger body areas may need more.
How long does the swelling last?
Face formulas usually cause a few days of swelling. DCA under the chin or in the lower cheeks can stay swollen and firm for up to 3 weeks.
Is the result permanent?
Treated fat cells are reduced, so results are usually long-lasting, but remaining fat cells can still grow with weight gain.
Can it be combined with Botox?
Yes. For a slimmer lower face, fat injections are often combined with masseter or jawline Botox in the same plan.
