What causes loose skin, and what can tightening do?
From the late twenties, the skin makes less collagen and elastin each year. Sun exposure, weight changes and genetics speed this up. The result is not one problem but several, layered on top of each other:
- Thin, crepey skin — the dermis loses density, so skin creases and looks less smooth
- Soft jawline and jowls — deeper support tissue (the SMAS layer) loosens and slides downward
- Heaviness — fat in the lower face or under the chin adds weight to already loose skin
- Lost volume — fat pads and bone shrink, so skin has less to drape over
Energy-based tightening is very good at the first three, especially in mild to moderate cases. Where the main issue is lost volume, injectables usually do more; see face volume loss. For more pronounced drooping, our sagging skin treatment page covers threads and combined plans.
Tightening is subtle by design: the goal is firmer, more defined skin that still looks like you, not a pulled appearance.
Which skin tightening device suits you?
Each device works at a different depth. The doctor often combines two — for example, ultrasound for the deeper layer and radiofrequency for the surface — in the same visit or a few weeks apart.
| Device | Energy & depth | Suits | From |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shurink Universe | HIFU, deeper layers | Early jowls, maintenance | ₩65,000 |
| Onda Lift | Microwave, fat and dermis | Lower-face heaviness | ₩120,000 |
| Titanium Lift | Laser heat, skin and fat | Lift plus brightness, little downtime | ₩150,000 |
| Oligio | Monopolar RF, dermis | Crepey skin, overall firmness | ₩500,000 |
| Ultherapy | Micro-focused ultrasound with imaging | Jawline, brow, neck laxity | ₩500,000 |
| Sofwave | Ultrasound, mid-dermis | Fine lines and texture with firming | ₩600,000 |
| Thermage FLX | Monopolar RF, dermis | Whole-face firmness, eyelids | ₩1,200,000 |
Prices in KRW, 10% VAT not included, updated September 2026. First-visit prices exist for some devices (e.g. Thermage 300 shots ₩890,000). See Thermage prices and Ultherapy prices.
Ultherapy and Thermage are FDA-cleared devices; the others are widely used in Korean clinics. If you are unsure which to choose, the HIFU lifting page explains how ultrasound devices differ.
What changes after skin tightening
Expect a firmer feel and a slightly crisper jawline rather than a dramatic change. Results build for 2–3 months and usually last 6–12 months. For people whose main goal is overall resilience, our firm skin treatment page shows how tightening fits into a longer plan.
How a skin tightening visit works
- Doctor assessment We check skin thickness, jawline definition, fat and existing fillers, then agree on one device or a pairing and the number of shots.
- Numbing & mapping Makeup off, numbing cream for 30–40 minutes, and treatment lines marked on the face.
- Treatment 20–90 minutes depending on device and shot count. You feel heat or deep pulses; settings are adjusted to your comfort.
- Cooling & care Cooling and soothing cream; you can usually wear makeup and travel the same day.
Because there is little downtime, tightening suits a short trip to Seoul. Some firmness is noticeable right away, but the main collagen response arrives 2–3 months later — usually after you are home. Many visitors pair tightening with skin boosters for surface glow.
Downtime, side effects and who should not have it
Energy-based tightening is well established, but it involves heat delivered under the skin, so settings and technique matter.
- Common: redness and warmth for a few hours, mild swelling for 1–3 days, and tenderness along the jaw or cheekbones for up to two weeks after ultrasound.
- Less common: small bruises, temporary numbness or tingling, and faint raised lines that fade within days.
- Rare: burns or blisters, temporary nerve irritation, or fat loss in already slim faces if energy is too high.
Not suitable, or tell the doctor first, if you
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have a pacemaker, metal implants in the area, or recent fillers or threads
- Have active skin infection, open wounds or a recent sunburn
- Have a very slim face, autoimmune disease, or take medicines that affect healing
Aftercare is light: gentle cleansing, moisturiser and SPF, and avoiding saunas and intense heat for a couple of days.

Skin tightening FAQ
How much does skin tightening cost in Gangnam?
At Bailor Clinic in Sinsa, Shurink starts from ₩65,000 for 100 shots, Titanium Lift from ₩150,000, Ultherapy from ₩500,000 and Thermage FLX 300 shots ₩1,200,000, VAT excluded. Full-face Ulthera 800 shots is ₩3,200,000. See the Thermage price list.
Thermage or Ultherapy — which is better for me?
Thermage (monopolar RF) mainly firms the skin surface and suits crepey skin and eyelids; Ultherapy (micro-focused ultrasound) reaches deeper support layers and suits the jawline and neck. Many people benefit from both, a few weeks apart.
Is skin tightening painful?
Most devices feel like strong heat or deep pulses. Numbing cream is applied first, and settings are adjusted to your comfort during treatment.
When will I see results?
Some firmness is visible immediately, but the main improvement develops over 2–3 months as new collagen forms.
Can I do it during a short trip to Seoul?
Yes. Most people return to normal activity the same day and can fly the next day.
Is the consultation in English?
Yes. You can also send photos on WhatsApp at +82 10-3054-1757 before you arrive.
