Sallow skin, brought back to life

Sallow skin looks tired, yellowish or grey even after a good night's sleep. At Bailor in Sinsa, a doctor works out whether the cause is dead cells, pigment, dehydration or lifestyle — then builds a brightening plan around it.

What makes skin look sallow?

“Sallow” describes skin that has lost its healthy colour and looks flat, yellowish, greyish or tired. It is not a disease, but it is often a sign that several small things are adding up:

  • Slow cell turnover — dead cells build up and scatter light instead of reflecting it.
  • Dehydration — dry skin looks dull and shows fine lines more easily.
  • Uneven pigment and sun damage — scattered light-brown pigment gives an overall muddy tone.
  • Lifestyle — smoking, poor sleep, stress, long flights and air-conditioned offices.
  • Medical causes — occasionally anaemia, thyroid or liver problems; a doctor will suggest a check-up if the colour change is new or unusual.

If your goal is the opposite — a visible glow — our glowing skin and brightened skin tone pages show how we build on the same steps.

How we treat sallow skin at Bailor

What changes as dullness lifts

Before · dull, yellowish After · fresher, brighter
⟷
Illustration only — not a patient photo. Drag to compare. Real results depend on the cause of dullness and the treatments combined.

Skin usually looks fresher right after a facial or peel, while tone evens out more gradually over a course of laser toning. Hydration from boosters builds over 1–2 weeks. For a deeper glow plan, see radiant skin.

How a brightening visit works

  1. Skin assessment The doctor checks hydration, pigment, redness and texture to find the main cause of dullness.
  2. Cleansing Makeup removal and gentle cleansing or exfoliation.
  3. Treatment Peel, laser toning or booster — 20–60 minutes depending on the combination.
  4. Calming & SPF Soothing mask, moisturiser and sunscreen before you leave.

Most sallow-skin treatments have no visible downtime, so they suit a short visit before an event or a long flight home. A single facial gives an immediate freshness; tone changes from laser build over several sessions.

Downtime, side effects and aftercare

Brightening treatments are gentle, but skin can still react:

  • Common: mild redness or warmth for a few hours, light dryness or flaking for 1–3 days after peels, tiny bumps after boosters.
  • Less common: temporary sensitivity, small breakouts, mild stinging with skincare for a few days.
  • Rare: blistering, temporary darkening or lightening after laser, or an allergic reaction to a product.

Tell the doctor first if

you are pregnant or breastfeeding, use retinoids or isotretinoin, have melasma, rosacea or very sensitive skin, have recently tanned, or have any known allergies. If your skin has become yellow suddenly or your eyes look yellow, see a doctor for a medical check — this is not a cosmetic issue. Use SPF daily and avoid saunas for 24 hours after treatment.

Sallow skin FAQ

How much does sallow skin treatment cost in Gangnam?

At Bailor Clinic in Sinsa, an Aqua Peel starts from ₩50,000, a Hydrating LHALA Peel Facial is ₩250,000 and Dullness Toning is ₩300,000 per session, VAT excluded. See facial prices.

What is the fastest way to brighten sallow skin?

A facial or gentle peel gives an immediate fresher look. For longer-lasting change, a course of laser toning and hydration works better.

Is sallow skin a sign of illness?

Usually it is cosmetic, caused by dehydration, sun and lifestyle. A sudden yellow colour, especially in the eyes, should be checked by a doctor.

Do glutathione IV drips fix sallow skin?

They are a supportive option some patients like, but evidence for skin brightening is limited. Sun protection, skincare and in-clinic treatments matter more.

How many sessions will I need?

Many people notice a difference after one visit, with 3–5 sessions 1–2 weeks apart giving more even results.
